Summary
Chess prodigy Amelia Ruth is finally attending the school of her dreams in London, but all is not well at Dreycott. A shadow of secrets and deception hangs over the school, one that threatens the safety of every single student and teacher. A ghostly figure known as the Sentient Statue has taken to revealing to beholders their deepest fears and then disappearing without a trace. Fellow student Clive Dove enlists Amelia's help in uncovering the mysteries at the school, but Amelia is unsure if she can really trust him. In fact, Clive's own ghosts may just be the undoing of the entire investigation...
About
This is a story set three years before the events of Eternal Diva and follows the adventures of a young Clive Dove and Amelia Ruth who meet at a boarding school and become friends as they try to solve a perplexing mystery. Essentially a prequel exploring Clive and Amelia's adolescence.

Hello! I decided it's high time I spoke up about your work. My sister and I have been avidly reading it for around a month now, and just recently got caught up. What a time to catch up! Gah, cliffhanger!
As someone who's adored the Layton series since I was twelve, I seriously want to thank you for this contribution to everyone looking for a good Layton fiction. It's well written, it's deep, every chapter has it's own memorable moments that leave you wanting more. Extra points for the characters! They have so much personality that my sister and I often find ourselves making up believable (I think) scenarios with them, because of how well you've translated those personalities into your writing. You also expertly built upon Clive and Amelia's characters, so much that I almost think of them as your own characters. I guess what I'm trying to say is, the story is exceedingly Laytonesque and fits very believably into the universe, but at the same time has enough identity that one could easily forget it's a fanfic. Bravo!!
Sorry for the lengthiness. I promised myself I would give the story the review it deserved once I caught up. = ) I plan to start commenting on future chapters from here on out. Until then, keep up the good work!
(P.S. , my favorite part so far has probably been the summer at Dove Manor. You captured the excitement and playfulness of it, and it was a well deserved rest for the characters! They earned that ice cream.)
